Scheduled tasks
Test a prompt, schedule it, and review every run.

Try the prompt first#
A scheduled run cannot ask you anything. Run the prompt in a normal chat until the result is right. Name the inputs, where to save, what done looks like and what to do when an input is missing.

Read the project instructions and the repository. Write a dated summary of recent changes and any checks that need attention. Do not edit files, commit, push or open a pull request.Create the schedule#
- 1Open Scheduled in the sidebar and click New task.
- 2Choose the Mode, then fill in Name and Prompt. Pick the agent and model.
- 3Choose a Schedule: Once, Hourly, Daily, Weekdays or Weekly. Set Run at and check the time zone.
- 4Choose the Project and which Task each run uses (see the table).
- 5Click Create. Then open the scheduled task’s menu and choose Run now to test a real run.
- 6Open the run’s chat and output file. Fix the prompt if anything is missing.
Choose where each run works#
| Task option | Use it for |

| New task each run | Separate results, each in a fresh task folder. |
| Create new, then reuse | Repeat work that should keep its files between runs. |
| Use existing task | Work that belongs in a task you already have. A run can start while you are working in that task. |
A Once schedule offers Create new task or Use existing task.
Fresh tasks start empty
A file saved in an earlier task is not in a new one. Link the input folder, and check the first run can read it.
How runs behave#
- Runs use Auto mode, so they never stop for approval.
- Each run makes a chat you can open from Scheduled. Turn on Show runs in sidebar to list them there too.
- ADE must be open for a run to start on time. Turn on Keep computer awake at the top of Scheduled, or in Settings > General. The display can still sleep.
- If ADE was closed at run time, it runs the task once when it opens again, even if several run times were missed.
- A Codex run can use Computer Use only when Allow Computer Use with Codex Auto is on and the Mac is unlocked.
