Agents and chats
Choose an agent, control each chat, and run independent work in parallel.

Pick an agent#
| Agent | What you need | Good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Your own Claude sign-in or an API key. | Long creative briefs, tool-rich production work, plan mode, and remote control. |
| Codex | Your own Codex sign-in or an API key. | Structured execution, long-running goals, independent second passes, precise file work, and Computer Use. |
| Grok Build | A Grok sign-in. | Grok models, with your Grok usage and extra usage credits shown in ADE. |
| OpenCode | Your own API key from Google AI Studio, DeepSeek, xAI, OpenRouter, or OpenCode Zen. | Models you already pay for, with Auto, Plan, and Ask modes. |
| VD Code | Your VideoDraft account. | Managed agent access with a weekly usage limit and no other AI subscription. |
A chat stays with the agent it starts with. Pick a model from a different agent and VideoDraft starts a new chat in the same task.
Run work in parallel#
- Start a visual research chat and a script chat in separate tasks.
- Keep typing in one chat while another streams in the background.
- Queue a follow-up while a turn runs. A turn is one message and the agent’s full response. VideoDraft sends the queued message when the turn ends.
- Use a separate task when the work is unrelated or may overwrite the same files.
One active agent per working folder is safest
Two agents writing the same folder at the same time can conflict. Separate tasks give each agent a clear ownership boundary.
Control a chat#
- Model chooses which model the agent runs.
- Thinking controls how much reasoning the agent uses.
- Plan mode asks the agent to propose a plan before making changes.
- Attachments add briefs, images, audio, video, and other source files.
- Linked folders give the task access to more folders on your Mac.
- Remote control continues the same local chat from another device. Claude chats only.
Act on a finished turn#
Every finished turn carries its own actions, so you can branch or rewind without starting over.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Copy | Copy the turn to the clipboard. |
| Fork | Start a new chat from this point, in a new tab or a new task. The earlier transcript comes along as reference. |
| Reset to this point | Restore the task files to this point and drop later turns, in either app mode. The agent keeps its memory, so the next message continues from here. Not offered on the latest turn. |
| Retry | Shown on a failed turn. Runs it again. |
| Continue | Shown on a turn you interrupted. Resumes in context. |
A message sent mid-turn is queued
VideoDraft sends it when the current turn ends. Each queued message keeps the model and settings you chose when you queued it. Switching models later does not change what is already waiting.
Arrange tabs and windows#
| To do this | Do this |
|---|---|
| See two tabs side by side | Press Cmd + \, or right-click a tab and choose Split right. Cmd + Opt + Left or Right moves focus between the panes. |
| Move a tab to the other pane | Right-click the tab and choose Move to next pane. |
| Keep a previewed file open | A file opened as a preview has an italic title, and the next file you open replaces it. Double-click the tab, or choose Keep open, to pin it. |
| Give a chat its own window | Right-click the tab and choose Open in new window, or press Cmd + Shift + N. |
